Exclusive interview: Nasser Al Qatami modern-day Columbus discover FLIGHT965

Meet the adventurous, free-spirited Nasser, and creator of Flight965.com, he is the to-go-to guy when it comes to travelling and discovering parts of the world that rarely make it on the travel itineraries. If you are confused on where to travel this Summer, or end up going to the same places as a last resort; well, Flight965.com is your answer , Nasser does not adopt archaic beliefs of tourism and wishes to bring an off-the-beaten-path perspective to travel. It’s great to see parts of the world from a different angle, it refreshes your experiences and you can start appreciating other bit and pieces while broadening your perspective.

THE BIRTH OF FLIGHT965
I decided to create it because I knew the ins and outs of blogging with my music blog, Loft965.com, which is on a platform all by itself now. So, I took on one of my other hobbies. Many of my friends and acquaintances think I am the go-to guy for travel suggestions, if I may say so myself. So I had all the tools, it was just a matter of sitting down and getting to it.

BEST EXPERIENCE THROUGH HIS TRAVELS FOR 2011
I recently went on a trip around Indochina and insisted on revisiting Cambodia. I don’t know what it is about that country but every time I go there, as cliche as it sounds, I reached a moment of complete solace. That’s always good.
I just basically take everything as it comes. Having ups and downs is better than having a monotone plateau. I think launching Flight965.com is a new chapter in my life and I am looking forward to it, many people are jumping on board and it’s great.

"I feel like spinning a globe and then pointing on a location will bring back that special mysticism that used to be associated with travel"

NASSER'S SUMMER PLANS
Not sure yet. I find the most successful trips are the spontaneous ones. Still, I am definitely trying to make a train trip through the Baltic states happen. Also, there’s always the impromptu Mykonos trip, as mediocre as it has become, there’s nothing like having a 4am gyro with your friends after a long night of partying.

Fav beach destination?Well, there are two different beach auras. There’s the restful beach and the party beach. For the first one, the most beautiful beach I have been to was in Zanzibar, Tanzania, which has many sandbanks and jetties. For the latter, I would opt for Spain or Montenegro during the summer. But, if you want one that fuses the two perfectly and is unsurpassable in its glory, it’s Ipanema Beach in Brazil

What trend will you be wearing to the beach this summer? Any colorful speedo-style swimsuit will do. Accompany that with a bunch of heavy chains bought by the dozen at the local market wherever you are, a nifty playlist from Loft965.com and you’re good to go.

What is your beach-care secret? I don’t really apply anything. The secret is to wake up early in the morning to catch enough of the sun’s rays and do some sort of frivolous activity throughout the day in the water. I find this reckless tanning gives me a pleasant color.
GREAT TIP: Alternatively, my mom does this great mixed confection of henna, carotene-based juices and some other stuff that gives you a nice sheen in a couple of minutes. It dilutes the henna perfectly and comes in lotion form. Everyone that tries it speaks highly of it. You just run the risk of looking like you walked out of Glastonbury festival for half an hour or so.

What is your fav Reina swimwear style “Bikini Wrap in White Sands” is looking especially fierce.
